Crop Modelling and Application for Climate Change Adaptation
The successful candidate will develop his (her) research in the frame of the EU project WHEALBI. The objective will be to identify, through simulation (optimization), wheat and barley ideotypes better adapted to target populations of environments, including conditions of climate change. You will use the crop simulation model SiriusQuality, which has been calibrated and evaluated for several cultivars under a wide range of environments. Constitutive (i.e. expressed in all environments) and adaptive (i.e. expressed under specific environments) traits will be optimized through simulation to meet yield and grain protein concentration and composition objectives under contrasted climates and resources (water and nitrogen) availability. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development and improvement of the SiriusQuality. This project will deliver a list of traits and ideotypes whose value will be assessed in the field within the project.
