The United Nations' World Bee Day, which began in 2018, was celebrated on May 20. The purpose is to promote awareness about the critical role of bees and other pollinators in human and environmental health, as well as the numerous problems and threats that these species experience.
To celebrate the occasion, members of the A4FP Project Team taught a class to the Silvares School students entitled "From flower to honey: friends and rivals." During the lesson, the issue of acacias in Portugal and their effects on biodiversity loss received specific focus. The project poster was then displayed near the native species plantation after the class. This small garden was established in close collaboration with the Silvares School on a nearby location that had recently been cleared of acacias.
