WP1: Forest Models for Adaptive Forest Management (AFM)

Description:

The main objective of this task is to develop, integrate and test process-based and empirical growth and yield models and fire and pest occurrence and damage models. This will be instrumental to help identify sustainable adaptive forest management strategies at stand and landscape levels including evaluation of management options and risk.

Objectives:

  • Enhance quality and consistency of forest modelling for simulating forest resources dynamics at various scales under alternative management and climatic scenarios.
  • Model the risk occurrence and effect of insects and diseases outbreaks, fires or storms.
  • Calibrate/develop process-based models for different species in Portugal (e.g. Maritime Pine, Quercus Suber).
  • Operationalise the use of process-based models to support forest management.
  • Develop of improved models for adaptive forest management .
