The objective of this task is to develop a conceptual model of decision making processes in adaptive forest management (AFM), to develop the architecture of a DSS for AFM, to implement the DSS as software package, and to demonstrate the application of the DSS for selected case studies. An innovative computational modular structure will be evolved for adaptive forest management including risk assessment (e.g. fire and pests). Recommendations for AFM in Portugal will be produced based on the application of the DSS to the case studies.
The system will also integrate innovative tools to create Interactive Decision Maps, which will be used for multiple criterion decision problems providing interactive and animated visualization of frontiers of multiple two-criterion slices of the Edgeworth-pareto hull. This will serve to analyse trade-offs between criteria/objectives which is instrumental for the stakeholders to better understand the problem, specify the preferred combination of the criterion values (the goal), and compute the associated decision alternatives.
